Toxins are everywhere; in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and in the water we drink. Environmental factors like heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals in cleaning products are extremely toxic. Not to mention our food supply which contains genetically modified foods like corn and soy, hybridized wheat, food coloring, and flavoring just to name a few.

Start detoxifying by eliminating some of these from your diet. Here are six warning signs that you may have been exposed to toxins.

1. Fatigue or difficulty sleeping

Are you feeling tired or exhausted more than usual? Is it because you are not sleeping well or are there other dynamics going on? Do you have adrenal fatigue from physical, mental, or chemical stress? Or perhaps thyroid problems?

2. Indigestion

This is a common sign of a toxic bowel. Dietary toxins can cause bloating, reflux, diverticulitis, diverticulosis, and IBS. These can be detrimental to your microbiome. Make sure your intestinal flora is healthy!

3. Stuffy nose

Interestingly enough I learned this from an ENT. Digestive problems can actually cause sinus and allergy problems.

4. Skin conditions

Eczema, rashes and hives are one way your body may eliminate toxins. During a detox or cleanse these conditions will sometimes worsen before they improve as the body tries to eliminate the unwanted toxins.

5. Brain fog- one reason for brain fog is toxicity

It’s a type of cognitive dysfunction which can include: memory problems, lack of mental clarity, impaired concentration, mental fatigue, and a feeling like there is a cloud over you. Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease are on the rise and testing for toxins should be part of the treatment plan. 

6. Weight gain
